It’s a question that’s tickled the minds of mystics and dreamers for ages. And believe it or not, there are stories—amazing, vivid stories—that claim to know the answer.

One of my favorites comes from the adventures of Rabbah bar Bar Hannah. Now, Rabbah bar Bar Hannah was no ordinary traveler. He was a renowned Talmudic sage, known for his incredible (some might say unbelievable!) tales of his journeys.

As the story goes, recounted in Tree of Souls, Rabbah was wandering through the desert when he encountered a Bedouin. This wasn't just any chance meeting. The Bedouin made Rabbah an offer he couldn't refuse: he promised to show him the very spot where heaven and earth meet.

Can you imagine the anticipation? The sheer wonder?

So, off they went. And what did they find? The story tells us they discovered the Galgal HaShamayim, the Wheel of Heaven. Now, picture this: a massive wheel, almost like a celestial Ferris wheel, but instead of seats, it was filled with countless windows.

According to the story, Rabbah, ever the practical traveler, took his bread basket (gotta have snacks!) and placed it in one of these heavenly windows. Think about that image for a moment. A simple, earthly object—a bread basket—placed directly into the structure of heaven itself.

And then, Rabbah did something truly beautiful. He stopped and prayed the afternoon prayer, Minchah. Right there, at the intersection of the earthly and the divine, he connected with the Holy One.

What does it all mean? Well, on the surface, it's a fantastic story about a literal meeting place between heaven and earth. But maybe, just maybe, it's also a metaphor. Perhaps the place where heaven and earth meet isn't a physical location at all, but a state of being. A moment of prayer, a moment of connection, a moment where we, like Rabbah, can reach out and touch the divine.

Maybe our bread basket, whatever that may be, is our way of reaching through one of the windows of the Galgal HaShamayim.

What do you think? Where do you find the meeting place of heaven and earth?
