Woe to Moab, People of Chemosh, Undone by Sihon the Amorite

Midrash Aggadah, Numbers 21:29

"Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh" (Numbers 21:29). You suppose that the reason Israel does not wage war against them is out of fear of Chemosh their god, or that they refrained because they trusted in Chemosh their god; therefore the praise of Sihon and the destruction of Moab — which is the people of Chemosh — is stated. "He has given his sons as fugitives" — for they fled from the war, and none remained of them except fugitives. "And his daughters" — who did not fight and were not able to flee; therefore Sihon the king took them captive.
