Why Balaam Saddled His Own Donkey to Curse Israel

Midrash Aggadah, Numbers 22:21

"And he saddled his donkey" (Numbers 22:21). From here we learn that hatred upsets the proper order. For did he not have many servants? So it is written, "and his two young men were with him." Rather, because he greatly hated Israel, he rose early and saddled his donkey himself. Our Sages of blessed memory said: that donkey was created on the sixth day of the creation of the world. And Jacob gave this donkey to Balaam, so that he would not give evil counsel to Pharaoh, that he should not decree an evil decree against his children. But it did not avail him; rather he gave Pharaoh the counsel of the bricks.
