<b>And the Lord spoke unto Moses: “Go, get thee down” (Exod. 32:7).</b> May our masters teach us: If a person sends his <i>eruv</i><sup class="footnote-marker">34</sup><i class="footnote">Through the legal procedure known as <i>eruv</i> (“mixing”), various private domains are amalgamated so as to permit certain activities, such as carrying, that are prohibited on the Sabbath and the festivals.</i> by means of a deaf mute, a fool, or a child, is his <i>eruv</i> considered a legal one? Thus do our masters teach us: If one sends his <i>eruv</i> by means of a deaf mute, a fool, or a child, his <i>eruv</i> is not a legal one. Shame upon the man who sends a fool as his messenger to the King, as it is said: <i>He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off his own feet and drinketh damage</i> (Prov. 26:6).
