Why, then, is it stated: “The generations of Aaron and Moses”? It is due to the honor of Moses, to avoid diminishing his honor. “These are the names of the sons of Aaron: The firstborn, Nadav, [and Avihu, Elazar, and Itamar]…These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he invested to serve as priests” (Numbers 3:2–3). That is what we said, that the verse engaged only with the priestly dynasty.
