How Noah Went Without Sleep for a Year Feeding the Ark

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Noach 2:2

Another interpretation: "and one who wins souls" (Proverbs 11:30). There is an animal that would eat at the first hour of the day, and there is one that ate at the second of the day, and there is one at the third of the day, and there is one at the crowing of the rooster. Our Rabbis said: For the twelve months that Noah spent in the ark, he did not taste the taste of sleep, neither by day nor by night, because he was occupied with feeding the souls that were with him. This is what is said: "and one who wins souls" (Proverbs 11:30) — this is Noah.
