And this point – when it ascends towards Aleph א, which is ‘the concealed air’ – is called qametz ָ, the closed handful. Because: (see Lev. 5:12)... and the priest shall take-a-handful (qamatz) from there, a full handful... and it is Hidden Thought – the blocked ם final-Mem.

What is its key? the vowel-sign ‘pataḥ’ ַ! And this is ו Vav. And it is stretched forth like this: \ [Var. ֿ ֿ ֿ ] When it is separated from the point, it is most certainly an open firmament, (see Ez. 1:22) Stretched over the heads of the ḥayah, which is the ‘spark’ of the qametz ָ. It is this that is written: (Ez. 1:22) And the image, above the heads of the ḥayah, a firmament...

Who is the ḥayah? It is Malkhut, which is a ‘spark’ below the ‘firmament’, like this: [Var. ָ qametz ]

Who is ‘the firmament’? It is the ‘Righteous-One’ (tzadiq). And She is the ḥayah: (Ez. 10:20) which I saw beneath the God of Israel... and the heads of the ḥayah below are Netzaḥ and Hod.

And there is a higher ḥayah, like this: and this is that [which is] higher Yod, which is above the firmament, and this is ‘higher Thought.’.

[And this one, She is ADNY, the higher crown is She] Keter, at the head [of all] [Var. of the bride]. Her firmament is higher Vav, and this is: (Is. 62:3)... the crown of glory... Her heads are two arms. And there is [and She is] a crown, on the head of Father and Mother, a Higher Crown surely. And Her heads above are Father and Mother.

She is Yod י in every place. Her ‘tip’ is above, and Her body is in the middle, and Her end is below, ‘the totality of the letters’ of the explicit Name.

Her head above, is of the mystery of ‘cantillation-notes’, and Her body in the middle, is of the mystery [Var. the totality] of the letters, a body for both-of-them, and her tip below, is of the mystery of the vowel-points.

And below, this point is ‘female waters’, and above, ‘male waters’.xBereishyt Rabbah 13:13 A firmament in the middle like this: א Aleph. Upon it is stated: (Gen. 1:6)... and let it separate, between waters and waters.

And this is the meaning of:xiMishnah Avot 5:17 ‘a dispute which is for the sake of heaven, whose purpose will endure’, to bring about peace and unity in both-of-them, and not a dispute of separation, such as the dispute of Koraḥ and his assembly with Aaron.

And this debate which is for the sake of Heaven is because the lower waters are crying, and saying: ‘We want to be before the King, the Cause of all causes!’ And they want to ascend above. But a firmament separates between them, until the Cause of all causes makes them equal.

And the mystery of the word: (Gen. 1:16) And ELQYM made, the two great luminaries... And they are equal. It is this that is written: (Is. 30:26) And the light of the moon, shall be as the light of the sun...

Come and see: qametz ָ is enclosed within the letter Yod י, from every side: above, and middle, and below. And this ‘handful’ (qometz) is enclosed with three sephirot. Its opening is through the ‘five mentions of light’, which are the 5 higher fingers, and they are the higher Hei ה (=5).

And the mystery of the word: (Gen. 37:7) And behold, we are sheaving etc...... and behold my sheaf (alumah) rose-up, and it also stood... this is Aleph with vowel-point ḥolem ֹ∞dreaming, which is above all vowel-points, with an upright stature, and through it, Joseph ascended [Var. gazed] in a dream∞ḥelma.

And so, Jacob. It is this that is written: (Gen. 28:12) And he dreamt, and behold, a ladder was set in the earth, and its ‘head’ reached to the heavens... This is א Aleph which is the ‘head’.

... and behold angels of ELQYM ascending and descending upon it. The Masters of the Mishnah have said:xiiBT Ḥullin 91b ascending (’olim) – being plural indicates two, and descending (yordim) being plural indicates two, and they are: אָ אְ אִ אֻ And this letter, which is Aleph א with ḥolem ֹ, which is in the middle, [this is Vav ו ], is Higher Keter, which encompasses [Var. which encompasses them] the head of the Middle Pillar.

And when the Shekhinah ascends towards [And because of this: (Gen. 37:7)... and behold your sheaves leaned, and bowed down to my sheaf ] this crown, it is stated of it: (Ps. 118:22) The stone which the builders refused, became the head of the corner.

And She is ‘the stone that was hewn without hands’. It is this that is written: (Dan. 2:34)... until a stone was hewn, without hands etc. And because the place from where it is hewn is not found, the holy angels ask: ‘Where is the place of His glory to praise Him?’ And a place for it is not found, such that they say: (Ez. 3:12) ‘Blessed is the glory of Y”Y from His place.’

[Var. Meanwhile, the Sava arrived and said: Rabbi! Rabbi! This is with the Lower Shekhinah, that has nought there but ‘emanation’, and this is ‘the hewn (it-gazrat) stone’ – because it is ‘the decree (ge-zeirah) of kings’, and through it, they decree soft judgement. This is the last judgement, and ‘the crown of sovereignty’ is called ‘sephirah’, for there is no complete sephirah below without it].

And this stone is the unique treasure of kings, it is the speech of the ministering angels, the speech of ḥayot, and seraphim and ophanim, the speech of all above and below, the knowledge of the sun and moon in seasons, [and in it, there is] the time and season for everything.

And it is the ‘tip’ of all letters: ב Beiyt like this דּ Dalet with dagesh, the tip of each-and-every letter, [Var. Her] ‘dimension of structure’ is ו Vav, from above to below, and from below to above.

And the mystery of the word is: (Deut. 4:32)... from the edge of the heavens, to the edge of the heavens. And this mystery is: (1 Chron. 29:11) To You Y”Y, is the greatness, and the might, and the glory... etc.... to You Y”Y is the kingdom... – this is Malkhut, which is in everything.

And it is the chirping of the sacred birds, of whom it is said: (Ecc. 10:20) For a bird of the heavens shall carry the voice, the chirping of all birds, which are the holy souls, who chirp with many prayers, the speech of the ḥayot, who are the scholars of Torah. And because of it is stated: (Gen. 24:63) And Isaac went out to converse∞su-aḥ in the field... etc. ‘And there is no ‘conversation’∞siḥah but prayer.’xvBT Berakhot 26b

And because of it is stated:xviSee BT Berakhot 27b [‘the evening prayer is voluntary (reshut)’] ‘the prayer service of the morning is an obligation’, [which is ‘a private domain’] the evening prayer service is a domain (reshut), [of the public, which has no fixed-time] because it is the domain of the night, [Var. inclusive of] its own, and therefore, it has no fixed time at night, which is likened to exile, [which is ‘a public domain’, in which (Ps. 104:20)... every beast of the forest moves about – which are all the light of the world that enters it] but sometimes it is present there, and sometimes it is not present.

Worthy is he who encounters Her, like Jacob, of whom it is stated: (Gen. 28:11) And he encountered the place, and he sojourned there because the sun had set... until Her Master came and watched over Her, and he was there, with Her, from there onwards they established it night-prayer as an obligation.

But on the Sabbath, She is ‘a private domain’, for She is in the domain of Her Husband, and not like the night, when She is alone, in Her own domain. It is this that is written: (Lam. 1:1) How alone She sits...

And Jacob, because he drew Her near to Her Master with his encounter, he certainly made it the evening prayer an obligation. And when the sun comes in the morning, of which it is stated: (Ps. 84:12) For a sun and a shield is Y”Y ELQYM, then it is stated of him: (Gen. 32:32)... and the sun rose upon him...

From there onwards, he bound Her to him, which is the knot of the tephilin (phylacteries) of the hand, he binds Her to him, so that She would not move from him forever.

From the left-hand side, he binds Her with the phylacteries (tephilin) of the hand, which is on the left arm.

Her Master, it is stated of Her: (Prov. 1:28) they shall seek me early and then... they shall find me.

But at night, which is exile, when She is without Her Master, and She is a domain (reshut) unto Herself, it is stated of Her:xviiMishnah Avot 1:10 ‘Do not become known to the authorities (reshut)’. And therefore, did David say: (Ps. 132:4–5) I will not give sleep to my eyes... etc... Until I find a place for Y”Y.

Until here is the mystery of qametz ָ, which is the mystery of higher and lower Thought [Var. high and low], which is ‘the point in the domain of Her Master’, Who is ו Vav – the firmament.

And a pataḥ ַ, which is without a point, is a domain unto itself, and a point without a pataḥ, is a domain unto itself.

For just as letters are male and female, so are vowel-points male and female, but letters are to vowel-points, like the body in relation to the spirit.

And so is a point in a Vav ו, such as ḥolem ֹ or ḥireq ִ or shureq ּ. A ḥolem above ו Vav makes it a ז Zayin, a ḥireq below is made a tail – Gimel ג. A shureq in the middle, the tip of the letter Dalet ד, a tip in the middle. And all is one: (Is. 44:6) I am first and I am last, and besides Me there is no god.

The shva ׃ – what is it? (Ez. 1:16)... as would be ‘a wheel (ophan) within a wheel’... And they are: (Gen. 1:16)... the great luminary...... and the small luminary... And they are ‘body and covenant’, and corresponding to them are sun and moon, which correspond to Higher and Lower Mother.

(Ez. 1:15) And behold one wheel on the earth next to the ‘angelic-beasts’∞ḥayot... This is the point under the segol ֶ, the point that is below, next to the ḥayot which are tzerei ֵ, (Gen. 1:16)... the two great luminaries...

And so it is in the midst of the ophanim – shureq וּ. One ophan (wheel) above, and one ophan below – and the Middle Pillar, it is between them.

And behold one wheel on the earth... (Ez. 1:16) – this is ḥireq ִ, which is below.

Each ‘spark’ is a י Yod, and each ‘firmament’ is a ו Vav.

YQVQ with shva ְ, ḥolem ֹ, qametz ָ [shva, ḥolem, qametz] shva (Gevurah) is judgement, qametz☉Ḥesed is mercy, left and right, from there the Torah is given, which is the Middle Pillar (Tipheret).

And when It the Divine Name is vowelled shva, qametz, ḥolem, It is alluded to by: (Ps. 91:14) For he has desired∞ḤaShaQ Me, and I will rescue him... and (Deut. 10:15) Only in your fathers did Y”Y desire∞ḤaShaQ...

From the aspect of א Aleph which is composed of יוי Yod-Vav-Yod (=26), which adds up to YQVQ (=26), was the blessed Holy One, and His Name, alone with the crown (Keter) – before the world was created – until it arose in thought to create Adam, who is the י Yod at the top of the א Aleph, a ‘crown’ above and a ‘point’ below.

And through the vowel-points of the letters, are made known all the sephirot. For there are nine vowel-points, and in them there are 14∞YaD sparks, and upon them is stated: (Ex. 14:8)... and the Children of Israel, went out with a high ‘hand’ (yad, =14).

And they correspond to the joints of the 5 fingers, which are 14∞YaD (hand). And 2 ‘firmaments’ are there: one from qametz ָ, and one from pataḥ ַ, corresponding to the two limbs (qanei) of the arm. And each spark is a joint, and it is a measure, and a ‘firmament’ is a ‘cubit’ (amah) of 6 tephaḥs and a ‘reed’ (qaneh), and ‘the line of measure’.

The cantillation-notes are from the crown, and they are the top of the Middle Pillar. The vowel-points are from the brain, and they are ‘the blessings upon the head of the righteous’, as it says: (Prov. 10:6) Blessings to the head of the righteous-one... And they are the 3 drops that are drawn from the brain, towards the covenant of circumcision.

The letters are from the aspect of Higher Mother, and all are incorporated in Malkhut.

And the vowel-points to the letters are like a soul to the body. For a body is like a horse to the rider. And the letters are open to the vowel-points to receive them, and upon them it is stated: (Ez. 1:11)... and their wings were separated from above... to receive vowel-points upon them, and a vowel-point, in every place, is a heavenly echo (bat) qol.

Rapheh ֿ is above the letters, and upon it is stated: (Ez. 1:22) And the image upon the heads of the ḥayah, was of a firmament, like the hue of the awesome ice, extended over their heads from above.

‘Extended’ – this is rapheh,... extended over the heads of the ḥayot, which are [YQV”Q – 4] letters, surely.

Dagesh ּ is inside the letters, like this: יּקּוּקּ, Rapheh ֿ is outside, like this: יֿקֿוֿקֿ, and they are like ‘a bridle (meteg) and curb’ for the letters, and of them: (Ez. 1:14) And the ḥayot were running and returning... running – with dagesh, and returning – with rapheh.

Rabbi Shim’on arose, and he said to Elijah: [Var. Elijah!] ‘Elijah! I adjure you by the holy kingdom (Malkhut), She Who has fallen in exile! Take permission not to depart from us! For the Shekhinah and Her host are watching out for you, the ministering angels – of whom it is stated: (Is. 33:7) Behold their mighty-ones are shouting outside, [screaming] outside their chambers: “There is none to receive the prayers of Israel!”

Many birds are chirping, in prayers, towards their mother, those that are nesting upon the earth, who are watching out for you! And they are all called ‘birds’, after the name of the bird’s nest, which is Holy Mother, of whom it is stated: (Deut. 22:6) When a bird’s nest will happen to be before you... And upon Her it is stated: (Ps. 84:4) Even the bird has found a home (bayit)...

And this is the letter Beiyt ב of Be-REiShYT, of which it is stated: (Prov. 24:3) In wisdom∞ḥokhmah will a house be built...

(Ps. 84:4)... and the freedom of the nest is hers... this is Higher Mother, the ‘jubilee’, of which is stated: (Lev. 25:10) And you shall proclaim freedom throughout the land...

When the bird has found a home, which is the Temple, and it becomes built and fixed, then immediately, freedom – which is the Higher Shekhinah – finds [Var. there is found] a nest for Herself, above [Var. from above]. And immediately: (Ps. 84:4)... who has placed (shatah) her chicks... – these are her six (shyt) sons, – six sephirot – which are ‘the six days of active work’, all of whom fly up towards Her, on the many Festivals and appointed times and holydays. And the chicks, who are Israel below, all fly up with Her in exile.

And when they are but ‘eggs’, for they do not have the wings of positive commandments, with which to fly, it is stated of Her: (Deut. 22:6)... do not take the mother upon the children. If so, what is the meaning of when a nest will happen to be...? But when the Shekhinah has no ‘place’, in which to reside there permanently, She goes about by happenstance. And this is:xviiiBT Berakhot 6b ‘Anyone who sets a permanent place for his prayer... etc.’

As souls act, so does the Shekhinah abide with them: a soul which is habitual in prayer or in Torah, is a permanent place for the Shekhinah to abide therein. But a soul which is not habitual in prayer or in Torah, unless encountered through happenstance, so, She also, abides upon it through happenstance.

And this is: when a bird’s nest happens before you... etc. (Deut. 22:6) For surely, the soul [Var. that prayer] is a bird’s nest, [and so, that soul of a person is called ‘a bird’s nest’] and the body is a ‘nest’ for the soul.

And thus souls, which are Her ‘maidens’, for they are called (Ps. 45:15)... the virgins following her, her companions... dwell in bodies, which are their nest, by way of happenstance, when they are not habitually in synagogues and houses of study. And this is: When a bird’s nest ‘happens’ before you... (Deut. 22:6)

And furthermore: The ‘bird’s nest’ above is the Throne, and Her nest below is Metatron. And regarding it is stated: (Num. 14:18)... and will surely not acquit (naqeh)... The word qan (nest) is there, and this is: (Naḥ. 1:2)... jealous (qano) and revenging (noqem)...

When a nest in which to abide is not found, then (Deut. 22:6)... on the way... This is that of which it is stated: (Josh. 5:4)... they died in the desert ‘on the way’, in their going out from Egypt.

And furthermore:... on the way... – this is the burial of Rachel, which is upon a crossroads (pharashat) aurḥin, and upon it is stated: (Jer. 9:1) Would that I had a guests’∞aurḥim lodging in the desert... And they are ‘the 2 messiahs’, who shall pass through there, when they come to redeem Israel.

(Deut. 22:6)... in any tree... – this is ‘the tree of life’, of which it is stated: (Prov. 3:18) It is a tree of life to them that take hold of it... And upon it is stated: (Deut. 20:19)... because the human is a tree of the field...

And furthermore: (Deut. 22:6)... in any tree... – this is the Righteous-One, Who is: (Gen. 1:11)... a tree making fruit of its kind... And this is the Sabbath day, for it is there that is the coupling of the Shekhinah with the blessed Holy One. And there, She has [Var. He has] relief, and upon that is stated: (Ps. 1:3) And it shall be as a tree planted by rivulets of water, that will give its fruit in its season... This is ‘the time of the Righteous-One’, which is Sabbath eve. For from the Righteous-One fly-forth new souls in Israel – on the Sabbath eve – which are called [Var. therefore, they are called], ‘new faces’.

Chicks – these are the scholars, for whose sake the Shekhinah resides upon Israel, or eggs – these are the school children, for whose sake the Shekhinah resides upon Israel, and these are ‘the Masters of Scripture’. And when they are occupied in Torah or in precept (mitzvah), – which are the blessed Holy One and the Shekhinah – and cause Them to join as one, they inherit souls from there, and they are called ‘children’ of the blessed Holy One.

Because ‘the Masters of Scripture’ and ‘the Masters of Mishnah’, they are from Her wings

The small-faced sucklings [Var. infants], each one has four faces, and Mother lies upon them, above them, and at times She is upon them, and at times She withdraws from them.

But children who are from the innards, [Var. over whom it is stated: (Jer. 31:19) therefore my innards are moved for him], beloved children, over whom Her ‘innards are moved’, who are the Masters of Qabalah, of them it is stated: (Deut. 22:6)... do not take the mother upon the children, for Mother does not depart from them for ever.

For surely, the blessed Holy One is ‘Torah’, and the Shekhinah is ‘mitzvah’ (precept). Worthy is the one who is occupied in them to unite Them!

And thus, (Ex. 20:8) Remember... and (Deut. 5:12) Observe... are the blessed Holy One and His Shekhinah. Worthy is the one who unifies them on the Sabbath day, which is Yesod, and with the love and fear of Y-H, which are Father and Mother. [Remember and Observe] These correspond to: the phylacteries (tephilin) of the head – Yod י, and the phylacteries of the hand – Hei ה, male and female.

And worthy is he who unites Them in ‘the recitation of the Shm’a’, in fear and love. For when Israel strives, in the Written Torah and in the Oral Torah, in love and fear, it is stated of them: Do not take the mother upon the children. (Deut. 22:6)

But when they are not striving in them, in love and fear, it is stated of them: You shall surely send away the mother... (Deut. 22:7)

When Israel keeps the Sabbath, with Remember and Observe, in fear and love, it is stated of them: (Deut. 22:6) Do not take the mother upon the children... And if not, it is written of them: (Deut. 22:7) You shall surely send away... etc. – two dismissals.

And when Israel unite the blessed Holy One, through the phylacteries of the hand, and through the phylacteries of the head, in fear and love, it is stated of them: (Deut. 22:6)... do not take the mother upon the children, and if not, then (Deut. 22:7) You shall surely send away...

And when they fulfil the precept of the covenant of circumcision, and remove the foreskin from themselves, and perform the act of pri’ah, in fear and love, it is stated of them: Do not take the mother upon the children, (Deut. 22:6) and if not, then You shall surely send away the mother... (Deut. 22:7)

When they are united in their couplings, with the sanctification of marriage and the 7 blessings, which are their unity, in sanctity and in blessing, it is stated of them: Do not take the mother upon the children... (Deut. 22:6) but if not, then You shall surely send away... (Deut. 22:7)

And Israel, they are in exile, in the ‘other’ domain, for when they do not unite in their couplings, with the rites of sanctification and the 7 blessings, which are their unity in sanctity and blessing, then instead of holiness – impurity resides upon them, and instead of blessing – cursing resides upon them, and instead of unity – separation resides upon them.

And this causes exile for the Shekhinah, who is driven from Her place and from Her nesting, which is Jerusalem. It is this that is written:... (Is. 50:1) and through your sins was your mother sent away. Two ‘sendings’ are implied by (Deut. 22:7) You shall surely send∞shaleiaḥ te-shalaḥ... – one from the First Temple, – and one from the Second Temple.

And should you say, that the blessed Holy One is not driven with them, therefore, Scripture states: (Prov. 27:8) Like a bird wandering from her nest, so is a man who wanders from his place – so as to guard Her in exile, from the foreign domain.

It is this that is written: (Is. 42:8) I am Y”Y, that is My Name, and My glory I shall not give to another... etc.... to another... – this means another god, this is Samael,... to idols... – those appointed over the seventy nations.

And because of Her, the blessed Holy One is: (Song. 7:6)... a king imprisoned in tresses (re-hatim). He is imprisoned with them, through the phylacteries of the head, which is the glory of the head, for the phylacteries of the head, are in the place of ‘the channels (re-hitei) of the brain’, – and this is the meaning of:... imprisoned in tresses (re-hatim), and He is bound∞ḥavush with them, through the phylacteries of the hand, through the tie of the hand. And this is as is written: (Ez. 24:17)... bind∞ḥavosh your headdress upon you...

And because He is bound with them in exile, it is statedxixBT Berakhot 5b of Him: ‘A prisoner does not release himself from prison’. And the Shekhinah, She is His prison, because of Her love, He is ‘imprisoned’ in Her. And the mystery of the word is: (Song. 1:13) A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me, between my breasts he shall lodge...

And because of this, whoever wants to apprehend the King, does not have permission to apprehend Him, except through the Shekhinah. It is this that is written: (Jer. 9:22–23) Let not boast... etc. Except through this (zot)... etc.

It is this that is written: (Deut. 33:1) And this (zot) is the blessing which... etc. And through Her, he effected the ten plagues against Pharaoh. And Jacob, because he knew, that the whole desire of the King is in Her, instructed his children about Her, that they should not enter before the King, except through Her. And all their requests, in prayer and supplication to the King, should be through Her. It is this that is written: (Gen. 49:28)... and this∞zot (Malkhut) is what their father spoke to them...

And David, because he knew, that all the will and force and might of the King is through Her, said: (Ps. 27:3) If there will encamp... etc. In ‘this’ (zot) I trust... Upon which it is stated: (Ps. 103:19)... and His Kingdom rules over all. And of one who (Ex. 7:23) does not place his heart, even to ‘this’, it is stated: (Ps. 92:7)... and the fool shall not understand ‘zot’ (this).
