He Who Touches Israel Touches the Apple of God's Eye

Yalkut Shimoni on Nach 55:1

"Because they did not come to the help of the LORD" (Judges 5:23). You find that whoever helps Israel, it is as though he helps the One who spoke and the world came into being, as it is said, "Because they did not come to the help of the LORD." It does not say "to our help," but "to the help of the LORD." And likewise it says, "For whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye" (Zechariah 2:12). And whoever rises against Israel, it is as though he rises against the One who spoke and the world came into being, as it is said, "For behold, Your enemies rage" (Psalms 83:3). It is not written here "our enemies," but "Your enemies." Why? "Against Your people they lay crafty plans, and they conspire against Your treasured ones" (Psalms 83:4). And likewise it says, "I hate them with perfect hatred" (Psalms 139:22). Why? "Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD?" (Psalms 139:21). And likewise it says, "Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, the uproar of those who rise against You, which ascends continually" (Psalms 74:23). And likewise it says, "In the greatness of Your majesty You overthrow Your adversaries" (Exodus 15:7). Who is it that rises against You? Only those who rise against Your children.
