"Only may the LORD establish His word" (1 Samuel 1:23). Rabbi Jeremiah said in the name of Rabbi Samuel bar Rav Isaac: each and every day a heavenly voice would go forth and reverberate through the whole world, saying, "A certain righteous man is destined to arise, and his name is Samuel." And every woman who bore a son would name him Samuel. But once they saw his deeds, they would say, "This is not Samuel." Yet when this one was born and they saw his deeds, they said, "It seems to me that this is the one."
