A cow does not gore until its daughter kicks; a woman is not unchaste until her daughter is unchaste. He said to him, If so, was Leah our mother unchaste? He said to him: because it is written, "And Leah went out to meet him" (Genesis 30:16), she went out adorned like a harlot; therefore it is written, "And Dinah the daughter of Leah went out." "And like men lying in wait, a band of priests" (Hosea 6:9): just as those bandits sit on the road and kill people and take their money, so Simeon and Levi did to Shechem. "A company of priests": just as the priests gather at the threshing floor to take their portion, so Simeon and Levi did to Shechem. "They murder on the way to Shechem" [the verse reads "derekh"]: by way of murder they came to Shechem.
