X. A scholar travelling in a boat was mocked at by his fellow travellers who had asked him where his merchandise was and could not find any in the place he had indicated. On landing, the custom officials took all their property away. He went to the Beth ha-Midrash (rabbinic interpretive commentary) and lectured and was greatly honoured. His fellow travellers begged of him to intervene on their behalf and save them from starvation. It was done for the sake of his scholarship. He had carried all his property on him.
