Kalach Pitchei Chokhmah 47:2

When the Emanator, may His name be blessed, wished to rectify the matter of these garments, He would refine their levels one by one, so that they would not turn toward the evil, but rather would turn their faces to withdraw from it. And then each level would leave the matter of expelling the evil to the level beneath it. It thus emerges that it had a share in this, only that it withdrew and purified itself from it. And then it became fit to receive light. And so each level passed it to the level beneath it, until all the levels of Atzilut, Beriah, Yetzirah, and Asiyah were refined, as they are now. And they left the matter of expelling the evil to the lowest level of all the levels, namely Malkhut of Asiyah. And then all of them were made ready to receive the light, except for this last one, since the light can spread only into a vessel that has been purified from the evil.
