"And they journeyed from Succoth" (Exodus 13:20). Rabbi Akiva says: "Succoth" means nothing other than the clouds of glory, as it is said, "For over all the glory shall be a canopy" (Isaiah 4:5). And likewise in the time to come, "And a booth shall be for shade by day from the heat" (Isaiah 4:6). Another interpretation: "And they journeyed from Succoth"—Israel made three journeys before they reached the sea.
