The Sand That Breaks the Sea in Abraham's Blessing

Midrash Aggadah, Genesis 22:17

"For I will surely bless you" (Genesis 22:17) — a blessing for the father and a blessing for the son; and "I will surely multiply" — abundance for the father, abundance for the son. "As the stars of the heavens" — when they are on high. "And as the sand which is on the seashore" — just as the sand is a fence for the sea, and at every time that the sea rages, when it comes to the sand the waves are broken, so too Israel: however much the nations of the world raise themselves up over Israel, in the end they are broken before them. And so you find with Pharaoh, and with Sisera, and with Babylon, and with Haman, and with the Greeks. And so too the children of Edom are destined to fall before them, as it is said: "And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom" (Ezekiel 25:14).
