(Proverbs 28:13): "He who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy." Rabbi Yohanan said: One who confesses on condition that he also forsake [his sin] will obtain mercy, as it is said (Isaiah 55:7): "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, [and let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him]."
