Wise in His Own Eyes the Rich Man the Poor One Sees Through Him

Midrash Mishlei 28:3

"A rich man is wise in his own eyes" (Proverbs 28:11) - this is the master of Scripture; "but a poor man who has understanding sees through him" - this is the master of Talmud. Another interpretation: "wise in his own eyes [is the rich man]" - this is Haman the wicked; "but a poor man who has understanding sees through him" - this is Mordecai. Another interpretation: "a rich man is wise in his own eyes" - this is Pharaoh; "but a poor man who has understanding sees through him" - this is Moses our teacher. Another interpretation: "a rich man is wise in his own eyes" - this is Esau; "but a poor man who has understanding sees through him" - this is Jacob.
