The Judge Who Needs Nothing Steadies the Land

Midrash Mishlei 29:1

(Proverbs 29:4): "A king by justice establishes the land." Rav Nahman bar Yitzhak expounded: If a judge resembles a king, who needs nothing, he establishes the land; "but a man of gifts" — and if he resembles a priest who makes the rounds of the threshing floors [to collect his portions], he tears it down.
