David, Joseph, and Moses in the Torah of Man

Midrash Shmuel 27:2

"And yet this was a small thing in Your eyes, etc." (there, there, [2 Samuel 7] verse 19). Rabbi Simon said: This may be compared to one for whom his fellow did a small favor; he said to him, "You have done a small thing — in the end you will do a great thing." "And this is the Torah of man" (there) — this is the throne of man. Another interpretation: "And this is the Torah of man" — this is Joseph, as it is written, "And Joseph was of beautiful form and of beautiful appearance" (Genesis 39:6). Another interpretation: "And this is the Torah of man" — the most excellent of the prophets; this is Moses. You find that what is written concerning this one is written concerning that one: this one was king over Israel and Judah, and this one was king over Israel and Judah; this one offered a sacrifice, and this one offered a sacrifice; this one [made] high places, and this one [made] high places; this one came with happiness, and this one came with happiness.
