Moses Foresees the Temple's Fall and Establishes Daily Prayer

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Ki Tavo 1:1

(Deuteronomy 26:1:) "AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS WHEN YOU COME INTO THE LAND." (Deuteronomy 26:16:) "THIS DAY THE LORD YOUR GOD COMMANDS YOU TO PERFORM, etc." This is what Scripture says (Psalms 95:6): "Come, let us bow down and kneel, let us bless, etc." And what does Scripture teach by saying "let us bow down and kneel"? Rather, Moses foresaw that the Temple was destined to be destroyed and that the firstfruits were destined to cease, so he arose and instituted for Israel that they should pray three times every day, for prayer is more beloved before the Holy One, blessed be He, than a hundred good deeds. When it was decreed upon him that he should not enter the land, he began to pray, and he said (Deuteronomy 3:25): "Let me, I pray, cross over and see, etc." The Holy One, blessed be He, said to him (Deuteronomy 3:26-27): "Enough for you! Do not speak to Me again concerning this matter. Go up to the top of Pisgah, etc." Therefore it is said: "The Lord your God commands you to perform, etc."
