The Seventy-Two-Thread Veil Before the Ark in Vayakhel

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Vayakhel 10:1

Our masters said: What is written above on the matter? "And he made the veil" (Exodus 36:35). Our masters said: The veil's thickness was a handbreadth, and it was woven upon seventy-two heddle-threads, and upon each and every strand were twenty-four threads. Its length was forty cubits, and its width was twenty cubits, and there was no knot in it. And they would make two of them each and every year, and three hundred priests would immerse it. And how would they immerse it? All the priests would go up and immerse it, and they would go up and spread it out upon the rampart. And once Moses had made the veil, which was set before the Ark, afterward he told Bezalel to make the Ark.
