Why Moses Drove His Flock Into the Wilderness

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Shemot 12:1

(Exodus 3:1:) "And he drove the flock behind the wilderness." Why was he pursuing after the wilderness? In order to distance himself from robbery. Another interpretation: He was pursuing the wilderness because he saw that he would receive greatness from the wilderness. The Torah came from the wilderness; the commandments came from the wilderness; the Tabernacle came from the wilderness; the Divine Presence came from the wilderness; kingdoms and priesthood came from the wilderness; the well came from the wilderness; the manna came from the wilderness; the clouds of glory came from the wilderness. Therefore he was pursuing after the wilderness.
