Three Curses on the Inciter, the Sage-Defier, and the Trustful

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Tazria 12:2

Concerning the inciter — this is the serpent who incited the woman and said, "For God knows <that on the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened>" (Genesis 3:5). And because he incited, <Scripture> mentioned his name in connection with him. And concerning the one who transgresses the words of the Sages, as it is said, "Thus says the Lord, [the God of Israel]: Cursed is the man who does not heed <the words of this covenant>" (Jeremiah 11:3). And concerning the one who makes flesh and blood his patron, as it is said, "Thus says the Lord: Cursed is the man who trusts in a human being and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns from the Lord" (Jeremiah 17:5).
