How God Appeared as Warrior, Scribe, Elder, and Youth

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Yitro 16:3

Rabbi Hiyya bar Abba said: According to each and every concern, and likewise according to each and every matter, He appeared to them. At the sea He appeared to them as a warrior who waged the wars of Israel. At Sinai He was teaching Torah to Israel and standing as a scribe. In the days of Daniel He appeared as an elder teaching Torah, for so it is fitting that Torah should go forth from the mouths of the elders. He appeared to them in the days of Solomon as a young man, according to their deeds, as it is said, "His appearance is like Lebanon, choice as the cedars" (Song of Songs 5:15).
