Why the Terumah Belongs to God in This World and the Next

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Terumah 3:1

Another interpretation: (Exodus 25:2) "Speak unto the children of Israel." It is not written here "and let them take a contribution (terumah)," but rather "and let them take for Me (li) a contribution." Anything about which "for Me" (li) is said endures in this world and in the world to come. (Leviticus 25:23) "And the land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for [the land] is Mine" — in this world and in the world to come. [(Numbers 8:17) "For every firstborn among the children of Israel is Mine" — in this world and in the world to come. (Numbers 8:14) "And the Levites shall be Mine" — in this world and in the world to come.] And so too the contribution (terumah) — in this world and in the world to come.
