Shadows of Egypt of Egyptians

Pesikta DeRav Kahana 7:6

[6] "And the LORD smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt" (Exodus 12:29). "Firstborn" -- "every firstborn": the firstborn of a man, the firstborn of a woman, the firstborn of a male, the firstborn of a female. How is this? One man came to ten women, and they bore ten sons; they are all found to be firstborn of women. Ten men came to one woman, and she bore ten sons; they are all found to be firstborn of men. Consider for yourself: a house in which there was no firstborn, neither of a man nor of a woman, how do I uphold "for there was no house where there was not one dead" (ibid., verse 30)? Rabbi Abba bar Aha said: the steward of the house would die, as in what is said, "Shemariah the chief, for he was not the firstborn, but his father made him chief" (1 Chronicles 26:10). It is taught in the name of Rabbi Nathan: on the day that the firstborn of one of them died, he had carved his likeness within his house, and on that day it was struck off and ground down and scattered, and it was as hard for him as if on that day he had buried him. Rabbi Yudan said: because the Egyptians would bury within their houses, the dogs would enter through the burial niches and drag off the firstborn from among the dead and toy with them, and it was as hard for them as if on that day they had buried them.
