The Strip of Land and the Altar Between Joseph and Benjamin

Yalkut Shimoni on Nach 29:2

"And the border of Taanath-shiloh" (Joshua 16:6). Rabbi Hama bar Hanina said: A strip of land went out from the portion of Joseph and entered the portion of Benjamin, and upon it an altar was built; and Benjamin the righteous was distressed over it, longing to swallow it up into his own portion, as it is written, "and the border turned about eastward" (Joshua 16:6). Rabbi Yose bar Hanina said: "and the favor of Him who dwelt in the bush" (Deuteronomy 33:16) — the eye [of Benjamin] that did not wish to enjoy what was not his, let it merit and feed from among that which lies between its borders.
