"O LORD of hosts, if You will surely see" (1 Samuel 1:11). Rabbi Elazar said: From the day the Holy One, blessed be He, created His world, there was no person who called the Holy One, blessed be He, "Hosts," until Hannah came and said before Him: Master of the universe, of all the hosts upon hosts that You created in Your world, is it hard in Your eyes to give me one son? A parable: to what is the matter like? To a king of flesh and blood who made a feast for his servants. A poor man came and stood at the door. He said to them: Give me one slice of bread. But they paid him no heed. He pushed his way in before the king and said: From all this banquet that you have made, is it hard for you to give me a single slice?
