Another interpretation: "And he sent Judah before him" (Genesis 46:28). Rabbi Nechemiah said: To establish for him a house of study where he would teach Torah and where the tribes would study Torah there. Know that this is so: for once Joseph had departed from him, our father Jacob knew in which subject he had parted from him, since he kept reviewing it with him. Once his brothers came and said to him, "Joseph is still alive" (Genesis 45:26), he did not believe it, as it is said, "And his heart went numb, for he did not believe them" (Genesis 45:26). And Jacob remembered in which subject Joseph had parted from him, which he kept reviewing with him. And once Joseph's brothers came and told him, he said to them: Did he give you a sign as to which subject he parted from me with? What did he do? He gave them wagons, as it is said, "And he gave them wagons" - to teach you that in every place where Jacob dwelt he occupied himself with Torah, just as his fathers did, as it is said, "And he kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws" (Genesis 26:5).
