The Great Hand and Why Faith in Moses Counts as Faith in God

Yalkut Shimoni on Torah 240:1

"And Israel saw the great hand" (Exodus 14:31) - severe deaths, deaths stranger than one another. Rabbi Yose the Galilean says: From where do you say that the Egyptians were struck in Egypt with ten plagues, and so forth. Rabbi Eliezer says: From where do you derive that every single plague that the Holy One, blessed be He, brought upon the Egyptians in Egypt consisted of four plagues, and so forth. Rabbi Akiva says: From where that every single plague consisted of five plagues, and so forth. "And the people feared the LORD." Beforehand they were not in awe of the LORD, but here, "and the people feared the LORD." "And they believed in the LORD and in Moses His servant." If they believed in Moses, all the more so in the LORD. Then why does Scripture say "and in Moses"? To teach you that whoever believes in the shepherd of Israel is as one who believes in the One who spoke and the world came into being. Similarly you say, "And the people spoke against God and against Moses" (Numbers 21:5). If they spoke against God, all the more so against Moses - to teach you that whoever speaks against the shepherd of Israel is as one who speaks against the One who spoke and the world came into being.
