(Exodus 16:36) "Now the omer" I do not know how much it is; therefore Scripture says, "Now the omer is a tenth of an ephah." And how much is a tenth of an ephah? One of seven quarter-measures and a remainder. And this remainder, I do not know how much it is: one seventh of a quarter-measure. (Exodus 17:1) "And the whole congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin." Because Israel separated themselves from words of Torah, the enemy came upon them, for the enemy comes only on account of sin and transgression.

(שמות טז לו) וְהָעֹמֶר אֵינִי יוֹדֵעַ כַּמָּה הוּא, תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר וְהָעֹמֶר עֲשִׂירִית הָאֵיפָה, וְכַמָּה הוּא עֲשִׂירִית הָאֵיפָה, אֶחָד מִשִּׁבְעָה רְבָעִים וְעוֹד, וְעוֹד זֶה אֵינִי יוֹדֵעַ כַּמָּה הוּא, אֶחָד מִשִּׁבְעָה בִּרְבִיעִית. (שמות יז א) וַיִּסְעוּ כָּל עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמִּדְבַּר סִין, לְפִי שֶׁפָּרְשׁוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל מִדִּבְרֵי תּוֹרָה בָּא עֲלֵיהֶן הַשּׂוֹנֶא, שֶׁאֵין הַשּׂוֹנֵא בָּא אֶלָּא עַל חֵטְא וְעַל עֲבֵרָה.
