(Exodus 16:29-30) "See that the LORD has given you the Sabbath." See the pearl that I have given to you: bread for two days. Everything connected with the Sabbath is doubled. The omer is doubled, as it says above (verse 22), "two omers for each one." Its offering is doubled: "and on the Sabbath day, two lambs." Its punishment is doubled (Exodus 31:14), "those who profane it shall surely be put to death." Its reward is doubled (Isaiah 58:13), "and you shall call the Sabbath a delight, the holy day of the LORD honored." Its warning is doubled (Exodus 20:8), "Remember" and "Keep." Its psalm is doubled (Psalms 92:1), "A psalm, a song, for the Sabbath day." "See that the LORD has given you the Sabbath." Be watchful, for the LORD is giving it to you so that you will keep it. Therefore He gives you, etc. This is what Rabbi Joshua used to say: This is the doubled bread, as it is said, "two omers for each one." "Let each man stay in his place" (verse 29): these are the four cubits. "Let no man go out from his place on the seventh day": this is the two thousand cubits. And when they heard this matter they accepted it upon themselves and rested, as it is said, "and the people rested on the seventh day."
