The One Who Sees in the Dark Needs No Lamp

Yalkut Shimoni on Torah 378:5

Another interpretation: you find that one who is set in the darkness sees what is in the light, but one who is set in the light does not see what is in the darkness; yet the Holy One, blessed be He, sees what is in the darkness and what is in the light. Daniel said, "He reveals the deep and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness" (Daniel 2:22). Rabbi Yehudah bar Ilai said: this sun is set within its sheath, as it is said, "For the sun He has set a tent among them" (Psalms 19:5). And in the season of Tammuz it comes out of its sheath to ripen the fruits, and the world cannot endure it. Why? Because its light is harsh. The Holy One, blessed be He, said: with a creature of Mine you cannot look directly, and yet I would need light from you? Rather, why did I tell you? To give light to you in the World to Come.
