It was taught: "And you shall place on the row pure frankincense" (Leviticus 24:7). Rav said: "upon" means alongside. Or perhaps it means literally upon? When it says, "And you shall screen the ark with the curtain" (Exodus 40:3) you must say "upon" means alongside. "And he spread the tent" (Exodus 40:19) (this is written in remez 371 and 372). "And Moses was not able to enter" (Exodus 40:35). "And when the cloud was taken up" (this is written in remez 718) [228]. "For the cloud of the LORD was over the Tabernacle by day" (Exodus 40:38). Rabbi says: there were two clouds, as it is said, "For the cloud of the LORD was over the Tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night," and so on. Rabbi Elazar son of Rabbi Shimon says: there was one cloud, as it is said, "He spread a cloud for a covering" (Psalms 105:39). And why did it change for them? Because of those with discharges and those with leprosy, so that they would know when it was evening and when it was morning. Behold it says, "And Moses saw all the work, and behold they had done it," and so on (Exodus 39:43). And where had He commanded him? "And let them make Me a sanctuary" (Exodus 25:8). "And he put the table in the tent of meeting, and he arranged on it the arrangement of bread," and so on (Exodus 40:22-23). And where had He commanded him? "On the Sabbath day, on the Sabbath day, he shall arrange it before the LORD continually" (Leviticus 24:8). "And he set up the lampstand," and so on (Exodus 40:24-25). And where had He commanded him? "Upon the pure lampstand he shall arrange the lamps" (Leviticus 24:4). "And he set up the golden altar... and he burned upon it sweet incense" (Exodus 40:26-27). Where had He commanded him? "Morning by morning, when he tends the lamps, he shall burn it" (Exodus 30:7). "And the altar of burnt offering he set at the entrance of the Tabernacle of the tent of meeting," and so on (Exodus 40:29). Where had He commanded him? "The one lamb you shall offer in the morning" (Numbers 28:4).
