Receiving the Blood in a Vessel and the Sevenfold Sprinkling

Yalkut Shimoni on Torah 469:4

"And he shall take" (Leviticus 4:5-6): "taking" is stated here and "taking" is stated elsewhere; just as the taking stated elsewhere is in a vessel, so the taking stated here is in a vessel. "And the anointed priest shall take": I have only the anointed priest; how do I know to include another priest? Scripture teaches, "the priest." If we are ultimately to include another priest, why does Scripture say "the anointed priest"? Rather, it is a commandment that the anointed priest receive it, but if an ordinary priest received it, his service is valid. "Of the blood of the bull": of the lifeblood, and not of the blood of the hide, and not of the squeezed-out blood. "From the bull": he receives blood from the bull. From here they said: if the blood was spilled on the floor and he gathered it, it is invalid; from a vessel and he gathered it, it is valid. "Blood from the bull he shall receive": for if it should enter your mind [to read] "of the blood of the bull" as written, "of the blood," then even part of the blood [would suffice]. But Rav Yehudah said in the name of Rav: the slaughterer must receive all the blood of the bull, as it is said, "And all the blood of the bull he shall pour out" (Leviticus 4:7). And this is written concerning the remainder; if it is not relevant to the remainder, since it is not all the blood, apply it to the receiving — and he holds that we subtract and add and expound. "And they shall bring it": valid and not invalid. "It to the Tent of Meeting": to exclude the offering for a single commandment, that its blood should not be placed upon the golden altar. "And he shall dip": and not one who blots. "And he shall dip, and he shall sprinkle": every sprinkling is a dipping. "His finger": "his finger" is stated here, and "his finger" is stated elsewhere (Leviticus 14:16); just as the finger stated elsewhere is the right, the most prominent of the right hand, so the finger stated here is the right, the most prominent of the right hand. "In the blood": that there be in the blood enough for a dipping [from the start]. "And he shall sprinkle": and not one who drips. "And he shall sprinkle": and not one who throws. "Of the blood": of the blood that is in question. "Seven times": not seven drops. "Seven times": that he should count seven times and not one and seven, in the manner he counts on the Day of Atonement. "Before the LORD": one might think the whole house; Scripture teaches "the face of the curtain." One might think upon the whole curtain; Scripture teaches "the holy," teaching that he directs it opposite the poles [of the Ark].
