The Ten Miracles Wrought for Israel at the Sea

Mekhilta DeRabbi Shimon Ben Yochai 14:15

"And you, lift up your staff" (Exodus 14:16). Ten miracles were performed for Israel at the sea. The sea was split, as it is said, And the waters were split (Exodus 14:21). It was made into a kind of vaulted dome, as it is said, You pierced with his own staff the head of his warriors (Habakkuk 3:14). It was made into separate pieces, as it is said, To Him who cut the Sea of Reeds into pieces (Psalms 136:13). It was made dry land, as it is said, And the children of Israel walked on dry land (Exodus 14:29). It was made like clay for the Egyptians, as it is said, You trod the sea with Your horses, the churning of mighty waters (Habakkuk 3:15). It was made like rocks, as it is said, You shattered the heads of the sea monsters upon the waters (Psalms 74:13). It was made into crumbs, as it is said, You broke the sea apart by Your strength (Psalms 74:13). It was made for them like a kind of glass globe, so that they could see one another, as it is said, A gathering of waters, thick clouds of the skies (2 Samuel 22:12). And there came forth for them a flow of sweet water from within the salt water, as it is said, The flowing waters stood up like a heap (Exodus 15:8); and those waters, once they had drawn enough from them, froze, as it is said, The deeps congealed in the heart of the sea (Exodus 15:8).
