Why Scripture Remembers Jacob First Among the Patriarchs

Midrash Aggadah, Leviticus 26:42

"And I will remember My covenant Jacob" (Leviticus 26:42). "Jacob" is written in its full spelling — Jacob is worthy that his merit should be suspended for them. "And also My covenant Isaac, and also My covenant Abraham will I remember, and I will remember the land." Concerning Isaac, "remembering" is not stated, because the ashes of Isaac are recalled before the Holy One, blessed be He, continually, and there is no need to state "remembering," since he is already remembered and standing. And concerning Jacob, "also" is not stated, because his couch was complete. And why did Scripture open with Jacob? Because he had the distress of raising children, and because Israel are called by the name of Jacob, who is called Israel. And from where do we include the matriarchs? As it is stated, "the" (et), "the" (et), "the" (et). And thus it says, "there they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, etc." (Genesis 49:31).
