Moses Pleads That God Knows Every Human Spirit at Korach's Revolt

"And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh" (Numbers 16:22). Moses said before the Holy One, blessed be He: Master of the world, when a province rebels against a king of flesh and blood, he kills the wicked and the good alike, because he does not recognize who is his enemy and who is the one who loves him. But You know the spirits of a person — who believes in Your words and who does not believe. Will You be angry at the good and destroy them like the wicked, so that the righteous would be as the wicked? Far be it from You, that one man should sin and You be angry at the whole congregation.
