"And one of the young men answered and said" etc., "skilled in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, a handsome man, and the LORD is with him" (1 Samuel 16:18). "Skilled in playing" — in Scripture; "a mighty man of valor" — in Mishnah; "and a man of war" — in Talmud; "and prudent in speech" — in good deeds; "and a handsome man" — that he would illuminate faces in halakhah; "and the LORD is with him" — that the halakhah is according to his words.
