Hannah's Prayer and Whether Korah's Congregation Will Rise Again

"The LORD kills and makes alive, the LORD brings down to Sheol and raises up" (1 Samuel 2:6). There we learned: the congregation of Korah is not destined to rise up, as it is said, "and the earth covered them" (Numbers 16:33) — in this world; "and they perished from the midst of the assembly" — for the world to come; these are the words of Rabbi Akiva. Rabbi Elazar says: concerning them it says, "The LORD kills and makes alive, brings down to Sheol and raises up." Rabbi Berekhiah in the name of Rabbi Helbo said: even their names were lost from beneath their registers. Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi in the name of Rabbi said: thus was the congregation of Korah sinking and going down, until Hannah arose and prayed on their behalf, "The LORD kills and makes alive," and so forth.
