Eli's Sons and the Stolen Sacrifices at Shiloh

Midrash Shmuel 6:1

"Also before they would burn the fat, the priest's lad would come and say to the man who was sacrificing: Give meat to roast for the priest, for he will not take from you cooked meat, but only raw. And the man would say to him: Let them burn the fat first, and then take for yourself as your soul desires; and he would say: No, but you shall give it now, and if not, I will take it by force" (1 Samuel 2:15-16). Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai taught: The Holy One, blessed be He, said to them: Why do you eat the remnants of the meal-offering and leave the handful for the flies? And why do you eat the meat and leave the fats spread out in the sun? What do Israel say to him? Let the priest come and dash the blood and burn the fats, and afterward let him take for himself meat. And what does the priest say to them? The blood I will not dash, and the fats I will not burn—"Give meat to roast for the priest, and if not, I have taken it by force" (1 Samuel 2:16). What is said at the end? "And the sons of Eli were sons of belial" (1 Samuel 2:12)—sons who cast off the yoke of Heaven from upon themselves; they said: There is no kingship in Heaven, as it is written, "And the sons of Eli were sons of belial." And another verse says: "Certain men, sons of belial, have gone out and led astray," etc. (Deuteronomy 13:14).
