The Bride and the Torah Scholar in Tanchuma Ki Tisa

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Ki Tisa 11:1

"And He gave to Moses, when He had finished" (Exodus 31:18). Rav Huna said in the name of Resh Lakish: Just as this bride adorns herself with twenty-four ornaments, so a disciple of the wise must be diligent in the twenty-four books. Rabbi Levi said: What is the meaning of "when He had finished" (ke-khaloto)? Just as this bride, all the time that she is in her father's house, conceals herself, and no one knows her; when she comes to enter the wedding canopy, she uncovers her face, as if to say: Whoever knows testimony against me, let him come and testify against me. So too a disciple of the wise must be modest like this bride, and renowned in his good deeds like this bride who is renowned. "And He gave to Moses, when He had finished" (ke-khaloto — "as His bride").
