Moses Pleads Like Leviathan to Enter the Promised Land

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Vaetchanan 5:1

(Deuteronomy 3:23:) "And I besought the LORD." For what purpose? In order that he might enter the Land. This is what Scripture says (Psalms 61:2): "Hear, O God, [my cry] etc." He said to Him: What do you seek? He said to Him (Psalms 61:3): "From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is faint." The Holy One, blessed be He, said to him (Deuteronomy 3:26): "Enough for you, do not add [to speak to Me further of this matter]." [Moses said to Him:] Master of the World, You called me "My servant Moses," (Numbers 12:7): "Not so My servant Moses." I am a servant, and Leviathan is a servant. I make supplication before You, and he makes supplication before You, as it is said (Job 40:27): "Will he make many supplications to you?" The supplication of Leviathan You heard, and You made a covenant with him and upheld him, as it is said (Job 40:28): "Will he make a covenant with you, that you take him as a servant forever?" And I am Your servant, and You said to me (Exodus 34:10): "Behold, I make a covenant," and You did not uphold it. Rather, You said to me (Deuteronomy 32:50): "And die on the mountain etc." And not only this, but You wrote in the Torah and said (Exodus 21:5): "But if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master etc." And I love You and Your Torah and Your children; (Exodus 21:5) "I will not go out free." I do not seek to die. (Exodus 21:6) "And his master shall bring him to God, and he shall serve him forever." And You did not uphold it with me. And now, I pray, (Psalms 61:2) "Hear my cry, O God," (Psalms 55:2) "and do not hide Yourself from my supplication." The Holy One, blessed be He, said to him: It is impossible, (Deuteronomy 3:26) "enough for you." Your adversary at law has already issued a decree against you that you shall die, and all creatures like you.
