The Eye of the LORD Watches Over the Tribe of Levi

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Toldot 5:3

Another interpretation: "Behold, the eye of the LORD <is toward those who fear Him>" (Psalm 33:18) — this is the tribe of Levi, as it is said, "And I gave to him fear, [and he feared Me]" (Malachi 2:5). "Toward those who wait" (Psalm 33:18) — for they were always waiting upon the Holy One, blessed be He, "to deliver their soul from death" (Psalm 33:19) when they enter to offer a sacrifice; "to keep them alive in famine" (Psalm 33:19), for He gave them one out of ten, as it is said, "And to the Levites" (Numbers 18:26).
