Trust in the Lord and Do Good - The Market Inspector Parable

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Re'eh 8:1

(Psalms 37:3:) "Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness." R. Haggai, in the name of R. Isaac, used to transpose the verse: "Do good, trust in the LORD." A parable of a market overseer who went out to gauge the measures. A certain man saw him and began to hide from him. He said to him: Why do you hide from me? Gauge your measures and do not be afraid. This is what is written: "Trust in the LORD and do good." [(Continuing:) "Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness" — establish a settlement upon the land: sow, plant. "And cultivate faithfulness" — cultivate the faithfulness of the ancestors, as it is written (Psalms 101:6): "My eyes are upon the faithful of the land."]
