Jacob Sees the Temple Destroyed and Rebuilt at Bethel

Midrash Tanchuma Buber, Vayetzei 9:3

(Genesis 28:17:) "And he was afraid, and said: How awesome is this place!" This is nothing other than the Holy Temple, as it is said (Psalms 78:54): "And He brought them to the border of His sanctuary, this mountain which His right hand had acquired." And "awesome" refers to nothing other than the Holy Temple, as it is said (Psalms 68:36): "Awesome is God out of your sanctuaries." He saw it destroyed, as it is said, "This is nothing"; "but the house of God" (ibid.), for he saw it built. And all the prophets saw it built, destroyed, and built. Rather, the Holy One, blessed be He, said: You saw it destroyed in this world, but in the world to come I will build it Myself. And I, in My glory, will return within it, and you will see, as it is said (Isaiah 52:8): "For eye to eye they shall see, when the Lord returns to Zion."
