Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai was passing through during the sabbatical year and saw a man gathering aftergrowth of the seventh year. He said to him: my son, is it not the sabbatical year, and this is forbidden? He said to him: are you not the very one who permits it? He said to him: but if my colleagues differ with me? And he applied to him the verse "and one who breaches a fence, a serpent shall bite him" (Ecclesiastes 10:8). And so it was for him.
