Wherever Scripture Says Words Rebuke and Curses Follow

Pesikta DeRav Kahana 13:7

Rabbi Tanchuma said it [in the name of] Rabbi Lazar in the name of Rabbi Meir; Rabbi Menachma and Rabbi Bibi [reported] Rabbi Lazar in the name of Rabbi Meir: Wherever it says "davar," "divrei," or "devarim" [word, words], they are curses and rebukes. It is written, "These are the words [devarim] that Moses spoke to all Israel" (Deuteronomy 1:1); what is written there [later]? "Wasting of hunger and consuming of fever" (ibid. 32:24). It is written, "The word [davar] of the LORD that came to Hosea son of Beeri" (Hosea 1:1); what is written there? "For you are not My people" (ibid. 1:9). It is written, "The words [divrei] of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah" (Jeremiah 1:1); what is written there? "Whoever is destined for death, to death; and whoever is for captivity, to captivity" (ibid. 43:11).
