You Remember For Us What Amalek Did

Pesikta DeRav Kahana 3:7

"Remember" (Deuteronomy 25:17). Rabbi Berekhiah said: You say to us, "Remember"? You remember! With us forgetfulness is common, but You, before whom there is no forgetting — You be the one to "remember for him what he did to you" (Deuteronomy 25:17). Rabbi Yitzhak said: To us He said "do," to him He did not — "Remember, O LORD, against the children of Edom the day of Jerusalem" (Psalms 137:7). Rabbi Abba bar Kahana said: It means "lay it bare, lay it bare," as in the verse, "The broad wall of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown" (Jeremiah 51:58). Rabbi Levi said: it means "empty it out, empty it out," as in the verse, "And she hurried and emptied her pitcher into the trough" (Genesis 24:20). According to the view of Rabbi Abba bar Kahana, who said "lay it bare," the phrase "to the foundation in it" (Psalms 137:7) means: they reached its very foundation. According to the view of Rabbi Levi, who said "empty it out," the phrase "to the foundation in it" means: they uncovered its very foundation.
