Seven Days Beneath Its Mother and No Offering Without a Sabbath

Pesikta DeRav Kahana 9:10

"And it shall be seven days under its mother" (Leviticus 22:27). Rabbi Yehoshua of Sikhnin in the name of Rabbi Levi: This is like a king who was entering a province, and he sent out a herald and said: All guests who are present shall not see my face until they first see the noblewoman. So said the Holy One, blessed be He, to Israel: My children, do not bring an offering before Me until a Sabbath has passed over it, for there are no seven days without a Sabbath, and there is no circumcision without a Sabbath. Rabbi Yitzchak said: The law of a man and the law of a beast. The law of a man: "And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised" (Leviticus 12:3). The law of a beast: "And from the eighth day onward it shall be acceptable as an offering by fire to the LORD" (Leviticus 22:27).
