Four Men Whose Fame Was Stamped on Coins of the World

"And the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame was in all the land" (Joshua 6:27). There are four for whom coinage went out into the world. These are: Abraham, Joshua, David, and Mordecai. Abraham, as it is written, "And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great" (Genesis 12:2). And what was his coinage? An old man and an old woman on one side, and a young man and a young woman on the other. Joshua, as it is written, "And the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame was in all the land." And what was his coinage in the world? A staff and a wallet on one side, and a tower on the other, on the basis of "like the tower of David is your neck" (Song of Songs 4:4). Mordecai, as it is written, "For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out through all the provinces" (Esther 9:4), for coinage went out for him into the world. And what was his coinage? Sackcloth and ashes on one side, and a crown of gold on the other.
